The Avaldonian Herald is the official Foreign Office newsletter for the Republic of Avaldonia, and is approved, written, and published by the Foreign Office for the convenience of distribution to Regions which we have foreign relations with all throughout NationStates. We sincerely hope that you will enjoy this edition of the Paper.
1st Government
On the 25th of September 2023, unhinged Saxon (Saxe-Weimar-Eisenbach und Hohenstein) would in his role as election commissioner call an election. In the following 12 hour signing up period only one candidate from the Capitalist Party of Avaldonia would run, Great Conuto and Frepar. Mr Frepar would initially run on helping nations with economy, however after a change in campaign would run on issues around recruitment and getting the community more active. When the ballot was opened, Mr Frepar sat at 5 votes before it changed to 3 due to a change in vote to abstain by two voters. Despite this issue, he was sworn in before the Avaldonian Parliament upon winning the race.
Shortly after winning, he would announce his cabinet:
Minister of the Interior: Northen Exiles
Foreign Minister: Yandra
Roleplay Minister: unfilled at time.
The new Government was established to see what potential Avaldonia could yield in her earliest days for a properly functioning government, it is hoped that this "tester government" will allow for issues to be addressed so future Governments are capable. Nevertheless the Governor stated "I have my undoubted confidence in the Prime Minister, I am sure he will do great things."
Trouble in Parliament
Parliament was among the first things established on the regional discord. Unlike other regions, Avaldonia operates an open Parliament, this means that anyone who is a citizen may partake in the legislative process - unless, of course, they are disbarred for any particular reason. The legislative branch has thus far been an overwhelming success, with a handful of laws passing through its chamber. However, this month saw the first bill to be rejected enter the chamber. The Official Secrets Bill, introduced by the Prime Minister, aimed to regulate the handling of sensitive government information to safeguard regional security while maintaining transparency. It would have applied to all government agencies and employees dealing with classified data. Alongside that it mandated the use of discord mute as punishment, something which many members saw as outlandish. Debate around the bill was fragmented, and after an intense debate it went to the vote with a result of 1 aye, 1 abstain, and 3 nays. As a result the Official Secrets Bill would not pass into law. Many have pointed out that the bill was not entirely necessary given the smaller size of Avaldonia's off-site community, but noted it was something that should definitely be revisited in the future.
Growing, Growing, Growing
Avaldonia has grown in the last few weeks since it was established, as of writing this the region count stands at 30 - impressive for a region only a couple of weeks old. This is thanks to people like Saintlike Island and Unhinged Saxon, alongside the Government promise to expand the recruitment rate on Dotbot. According to government analytics, the region should be at 100 members by the end of this year. This rate of growth has been nothing but a miracle, according to the Governor. However, this large onsite growth, the discord membership has remained mostly stagnant, despite promises by the Government that it would grow. Nevertheless the praise that is deserved for the rapid growth outshines these concerns.
