Today, my office is authoring a special show of gratitude, thanks, and a salute to all of our veterans around the world past and present to raised their right hand to protect the freedoms we all enjoy. Knowing first hand what it’s like, I can tell you it’s a huge sacrifice to make. I personally feel we don’t always understand what some veterans go through. Study shows on average 17 veterans take their own life each day. I write this declaration to say if you see a veteran or know a veteran, stop and say thank you for their service. It will mean a lot to them. This weekend, I ask you to reflect on the things we enjoy and the sacrifices you have read they have made in history. This declaration goes beyond that to also include the families who are apart of the military family and lives of our veterans. We remember those who didn’t make it home safely to their families and those who didn’t get the help needed to make it home. One of the hardest parts is watching the casket be unloaded knowing that was your colleague and friend. So in the region of Iris, I call this a declaration of peace, thanks, and respect. This world is full of personalities. But it’s important for everyone to be compassionate, understanding, and learn each other’s cultures.
